Hello Everyone,
There is only one place to begin making a trouble-free yard, and that's the dirty soil…you have to work from the ground up – just like anything else in life that you want to be good at – because the foundation of any good lawn or garden is good, reliable soil….I was taught that even if I was given a plant for free, I should give it a $10 hole!…and it will prosper for many years to come, and every time you look at it, you'll glow a little inside, knowing that you've done a small thing to make your world – our world – a great greener world, and it all counts!
1 – You have to get a soil test (check pH level-acid/alkaline) asap every year for the first three years then once every two years thereafter.
2 – You have to determine the soil type (sand/clay/loam) and texture (size of soil types).
3 – You can skip
the above if you add plenty of compost to whatever your existing soil type.
(check with Creative Blossoms for the Compost Workshop dates – it's a workshop that will put the miracle of composting at your hands!
Unsightly, unimproved soil should remind you of little children who start out wild, un-controlable, then gradually settle down, respond to their parents' nurturing, and grow into fine people. That's how it is with soil. No matter what your yard looks like to start with, it can/will become richer and more agreeable when given a little TLC, and some 'black gold' (compost) which all soil types (and plants) love just like children love and crave chocolate.
