My Planting for Today:

I read somewhere a few years ago that a home without flowers is like a woman without lipstick at a party!

I love the natural look so lip-gloss could be substituted here, but the point is very clear ashy lips are a sign of a dusty home or mentality...

A great example of this is what I have come to realize in certain neighborhoods that have flowers sold at those main street vegetable stands - and sell out of flowers often; although, there isn't a holiday or notable reason like graduations, etc. The people and its area isn't ashen...now, you take that a little further and place a flower shop like Creative Blossoms in the middle of a neighborhood and suddenly attitudes change - No, REALLY!

One begins to make a purchase 'just because' stop by 'just curious' eventually a 'need to know' comes in...and its all good...your choice of flowers or plants for whatever reason will cause you to clear the area to present it favorably and after clearing you will say "thats good!" and then the actions begin. You all are LUCKY to have Creative Blossoms showing everyday that they support beautification of your community and life!

This should be a great work-shop and here are some of my insights concerning container gardening -
Since planters can get heavy I place a layer of styrofoam peanuts in the bottom of the container before adding the soil, it helps with drainage and the container becomes lighter and insted of using one those water absorbent items on the market that can be costly use 1 package of unflavored gelatin to 4 quarts of potting soil. If you really are lazy or if the plants are in a full sun area then combine the water-absorbing gel with the gelatin.
If you have a problem with cats or squirrels climing into your containers do what I have told countless people to do - buy a bag of water balloons, inflate 3 to 5 then place them under the soil or mulch around them. Once they pop a few, they won't dare mess with that container again. Containers are covenient and offers a lot. Enjoy the class and I will give tips when I can, unless their is a question. I will check here often, enjoy!

FAMOUS QUOTE:

"WHOEVER MAKES A GARDEN HAS, SO MANY FRIENDS!
THE GLORY OF THE MORNING,
THE DEW WHEN DAYLIGHT ENDS.
BY: Douglas Malloch

I liked this quote and thought it would be a great inspiration for your shop.
